Multi-factor authentication (MFA), sometimes knows as two-factor authentication, adds an extra layer of security to your Office 365 account by requiring a secondary sign-in verification by way of a text message, automated phone call, or prompt from a mobile app whenever you sign in to your account from a new device or after certain periods of time.
